Guidescope rings as tube rings - Yes / No ??

Recommended Posts

Hello all.  I have a pair of Primaluce GS rings and dovetail bar.  ID of the rings are 115 mm. I have a frac that would need ID rings of 105mm - it currently has a clamshell fitted. I find it not the best.

Thinking  I may be able to use the GS rings to mount the scope but guess I may have issues with alignment.
Any thoughts as to a “ go / no go “ to coin a phrase.  They would look rather natty once fitted but if lining them up is problematic maybe not the way to go.
I am only a visual observer.
Thx in advance. John

It can't get any worse than this...

...my re-modded ETX105 has a pair of Jubilee/hose rings. I cannot find anything close to 124mm, unless I get
some CNC/custom made tube rings.

Hello @Philip R - I’m impressed by your use of the word jubilee.  I use the word myself due to my late Dad always calling them that.  I wince with the term hose clip when watching and enjoying the car shows on Discovery. 👍

Think I’m being a bit of a tart with my query. I have a few bits of Primaluce gear and love the bling factor they give.  Does nothing for aperture fever but nice to look at while the clouds scud over

Bit of useless info but here it is anyway. 🙂

“The trademark Jubilee goes back to 1921 when the worm drive hose clip was invented and patented by Commander Lumley Robinson. Lumley had spent time in the British Navy and during his time there realised a new way to attach a hose to a pipe was needed. Lumley founded the business L Robinson and Company (parent company of Jubilee Clips Ltd), which still operates today from a base in Gillingham, Kent.”

We sell stainless steel 'Jubilee' clips in our chandlery - we get through about 800 - 1000 a year.

Nobody has EVER asked for a worm drive hose clip - its always a 'Jubilee' clip - maybe that says something about the age of our customers!!

@Skipper Billy

Do you sell large ones? - forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask.
My local family run ironmonger/hardware business closed last year. I would rather
spend my money with someone I trust and give you the custom.

The largest off the shelf are 120mm internal maximum diameter - if that's not big enough we sell kits with 3m of the strapping and 8 worm drives so you can make your own up to about 850mm internal diameter!!

The 120's are £4.95 and the kits are £24.50 - all are marine grade (316) stainless steel.

Happy to offer free post and packing to all SGL members
