Evostar 72ED as guidescope?

Recommended Posts

Hey yall,  after a discussion about my options for a grab and go setup I setteled on the Evostar 72ED. But I'm wondering if it can also be used as a guidescope for a bigger reflector.

If it can,  would the ZWO ASI 120MM work in conjunction with the 72ED?

That would work fine as a guidescope in the majority of setups.

Unless you use the diagonal it will probably need some extension tubes to reach focus.

(in this scope the guiding field is around 1/2 a degree, or diameter of full moon)

Here are a couple of simulations of the performance.

Oh you need that many spacers for focus?

Depending on a great many other factors you may want to consider an off axis guider for work at long focal lengths.
