Playing Around With A Cheap Microscope Camera

Decided to dig out the old microscope camera and give it a try on the moon. Cost about 100 quid so very inexpensive compared to a proper astro camera. Has an SD card to capture images although can also use usb and a laptop. Just plugged the camera into a monitor using an HDMI cable.

Results were better than expected. Not great but not that bad either. Perhaps an alternative to a smartphone fot lunar / planetary imaging? 🤔

A few camera manufacturers sell both astronomy cameras and microscope cameras (TIS, Touptek and others I'm sure).  I don't think there's very much difference between some of the models.

The same Panasonic sensor used in a lot of compact digital, cameras. One advantage is that as the camera uses an SD card and all the settings for exposure, white balance etc are built in so you don’t need a laptop just a TV or monitor.
