Comet 2020 F3 Neowise DSLR 17-07-20

Recommended Posts

This is my 2nd attempt. The first was literally a grab and go shot just to 'capture the moment', but last Friday night (17-07-20) I used the same camera and lens combo (Canon 6D @400mm f5.6) on a Star Adventurer.

I didn't particularly align the SA or balance it, it was just a last minute thing to try.

I'm glad I did, as I was going to wait until Saturday night and stay up really late to do better, which ended up being clouded out.

This is a stack of 13 x 30 seconds, with a lot of experimental processing in PI and LR to try and get a pleasing image.

Lovely image. I tried last night but only got a very noisy image. After noise reduction in Affinity Photo it did at least show the comet clearly. Tonight I'm going to try my Ioptron Skytracker, Sony A57 and Minolta 100-200 zoom. I'm glad you said not to worry about polar alignment, I was hoping to manage no more than 15 sec exposures.
