Books for learning

Hi all, so after recommendations on here, I bought Turn Left at orion book which is fantastic. I also bought philips 2020 stargazing (month by month), but I was wondering if anyone has other recommendations. As a beginner I like the the thought of Collins moon gazing plus does anyone have or read Astronomy years books?

We've got the Philips stargazing book, but we actually prefer the colins version. Same sort of thing we just find the layout easier to use.

apart from the page size and mag 8.5 I do not know to be honest.  maybe someone else might be able to answer that

ok gone through my books and I do have a copy albeit a 2nd edition 1996 hardback lists the moon details and also the stars visible during the year north and south hemisphere.so 13 charts in the northern hem. the chart's say to mag 6 in A4 format with information relating to each plate in colour see picture from the A4 book and then image from the atlas

But download Celestron's free 'SkyPortal' APP to your Apple or Android device.

You get an interactive sky atlas where you can look forward (or back) to any moment in time. Great for planning future observation targets.

For most principle objects you get a text description.

For some you get an audio description. 

It offers features like "tonight's best". 

Better than any collection of books.

Yep we got both. Started with the Philips one and bought the colins one a month or 2 later.

For general astronomical theory, An Introduction To Astronomy and Cosmology by Ian Morrison, is really good. The maths used is pretty straightforward and not advanced, and it's very readable.

This is a very good nightly guide on what you can expect to view on the moon with different scopes.
