Focuser assembly help!

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just recently got my Meade 6000 80mm apo. The attached focus assembly has the ability to rotate to reframe your object. I have the screw holding down the focus assembly, however, it is still able to rotate and gets annoying when I am loosening the self centering piece to remove my camera. Is this normal or does this need to break in? I can try to tighten it more but I do not want to stretch the threads. Its just annoying that when trying to remove the camera that the whole focus assembly is always rotating still.

I appreciate all of the help, thanks!

It shouldn't be that loose. You can tighten the flat brass screws a tiny bit to give it a bit more friction. Both my Altair EDR scopes have the same type of focuser. What I dont like about mine is that self centering locking collar. It's far too stiff to both lock and unlock and I have to grip the focuser firmly to stop it rotating. If I wasnt using a threaded connection for imaging and I observed more often I'd ditch it and buy a ClickLock.

Doesn’t the focuser have more than just one screw?   Maybe slightly tighten the small flat screws, the headless ones

Thanks! I didn't even touch those screws yet. Had no idea they were for the focuser rotation. I was just using the middle one that sticks up, with the rubber tip. I will tighten the others up a little bit

That is exactly what I have to do as well. I will try to tighten the brass screws some more. Thanks for the help!
