Sky watcher EQ3 pro mount powering issue

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased my self the skywatcher EQ3 pro mount, on the first night of use i powered the mount with DC 12V mains supply; this worked perfectly without issue  and all seemed happy. Last night i got the mount out and began to set up, the strange thing is that when i plugged that same DC 12V  main supply in to power the mount nothing happened..... no power is being revived from the mains. after unplugging everything and checking that the power lead works and that lead between the handset and the motor board controller which all seem ok and working.

I found that the setup will work but only power up now when plugged in to a laptop via the USB/ printer cable.  This is only achieving 4.6v though which seems far of what i was achieving from the mains on the first night.

i am also past the date for returning the product to the store i purchased it from, any help would be much appreciated on trying to resolve this as im now pulling my hair out over this.

Another quick update: i have just updated the firmware for both the hand controller and the control board, unfortunately this hasn't helped to resolve the issue. I am now trying to contact the shop from where i purchased the mount to see if they have any other advise. If there is anything else you guys can think of i am all ears 😃

Have the put volt meter on the power out plug are you getting 12 volts , you may have had a power spike and blown the adaptor

If you have only used it once it may have been a faulty one checking out put will tell you if it's working if mount power up from laptop I would say the power adaptor is dead

Tip is positive just so you know to test

Did you power the handset from the mount (v4 or v5 handset) or powered directly from the psu ? (v3).

How did you update the firmware if you can't power the mount?

I know you can get away with a lower current supply just for an update but if you can do this then at least the controller is still working.

Hey everyone, a quick update. After returning the product a fault was found with in the handset handset which was preventing the handset from being powered properly. The issue was resolved by using a brand new handset.

Thank you for all the help 😃
