Webcam in Obsy

Hi Folks

working on a small project here and am thinking about putting a webcam in my observatory.

I do have a USB feed out there so the question is , I am going to have to provide infra red light out there to enable the webcam to "see" , will this red light affect the seeing of the telescope and do I have to goto the expense of a webcam with "night vision" or could I just supply the light from a few LED's ?

Look on eBay for the Chinese webcams with in-built infra-red lights, e.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ZOSI-1000TVL-CCTV-Camera-For-Home-Security-960H-Outdoor-Indoor-36-Infrared-LEDs/161814180268 this is a video only camera, but there are others that will connect to an Android device etc.

You might try squirting your TV remote into your rig on long exposure to see if your IR filtering is good enough.......
