Next purchase: Evostar 72ED with mount help

I want to start doing AP and I need to upgrade my equipment from skywatcher explorer 130mm with eq2 mount  to AP gear. I need a telescope and a new mount.

what I have found is the Sky-Watcher Evostar 72ED DS-Pro OTA and maybe the Sky-Watcher EQ5 PRO Go-To Astronomy Mount with flattner

https://www.firstlightoptics.com/skywatcher-mounts/skywatcher-eq5-pro-synscan-goto.html

https://www.firstlightoptics.com/pro-series/sky-watcher-evostar-72ed-ds-pro-ota.html

https://www.firstlightoptics.com/adapters/flo-adapter-for-skywatcher-focal-reducers.html

is this the best equipment for me? I haven't done AP before so this will be my first REAL equipment.

I dont really wanna spend more than this.

so can I buy this mount instead? https://astro.astrosweden.se/sv/articles/1.1265.13069/sky-watcher-skywatcher-eqm-35-pro-synscan-montering

or is the eq5 mount better in the long run?

I live in Sweden so if you know any better websites that is cheaper let me know 😃

EDIT: I noticed i posted in the wrong section...

I think you’re on the right track with what you are looking at.

I’m not familiar with the EQ5 or EQM35 but either should do the job for the 72ED. I think I’d plump for the EQM35 if you pushed me since it seems to be a modular mount and very portable.

If you really wanted to future proof yourself and could stretch the budget a bit, then the HEQ5 or iOptron CEM25p would be ideal.

By the way, the link you sent for the flattener is actually an adapter for the flattener. The actual flattener is:

https://www.firstlightoptics.com/pro-series/skywatcher-85x-reducerflattener-for-evostar-72ed-pro.html

That might impact on your budget a bit. If it does give priority to the mount. If you already have a DSLR and lenses use them then buy a telescope later 👍🏻

Hi,

I'm relatively new to the hobby. I was doing just visual observation but have decided this year to give AP a shot.

Just wanted to let you know that I received the Ed72 today, looks like a great little scope. I have mine mounted on the Eq5  seems to be fine, will keep you posted once I can get out and actually use it :)

Good choice 👍🏻

The HEQ5 is a tried and tested mount with good support on here. You’ll also be able to put a decent sized refractor or newt on it if you decide to upgrade your 72ED in the future too.

I used the same scope yesterday on my star adventurer and it sat well with the tripod all the way down. The photo below is 31min of 30s subs in bortle 8 skies iso 800. Keep in mind I cropped the image since i don't have a field flattener.

I think you're really going to enjoy the scope!
