Anyone experience of CCDStack?

Wondered if anyone has any experience of CCD Ware's CCD Stack?

I've been looking at the tutorials and examples on their website and it looks a good piece of software.

It seems to have more 'automated' progression steps than Maxim DL.

It is an option as a Christmas present and I wondered if it would be another good tool to have.

Is this just to be used for stacking? Have you tried DeepSkyStacker? (Its free)

Steve, as well as stacking, there appear to be some very good tools within CCDStack, ie. I have heard very good reports on the bloom removal, normalisation, registering etc.

I haven't tried Deep Sky Stacker - I'll have a look, but can something that's free, really compete against software over £100 now. Maybe...I don't know.

I dont use anything but DSS for my stacking..... worth trying it, if only to show that it does a good job of stacking and that your £100 of xmas present funds might be worth going elsewhere.

I think free software can be as a good as commercial software.

GIMP is good, so is Registax, K3CCDTools - all free and all do a very good job.

agreed, there's very good software out there for next to nothing.
