Meade LX200 Slew delay

Recommended Posts

I've just patched my Autostar because of the GPS Rollover issue. When retraining the drives after doing that I have noticed there is a very slight delay (fraction of a second) between pressing the slew button and the scope actually moving (although the motors do start immediately). It happens in both Alt and Az. It may be that I had just not noticed this previously but I'm not sure. Any ideas on why this is happening and if it will impact on goto accuracy or tracking. Any suggestions on if or how this can be adjusted.

Thanks

David

If there isn't a function on the handset to adjust the delay then when setting the goto be sure to approach the setting star upwards in DEC and to the right in RA (actual). this will account for the delay when in use.    😀

You need to redo Train Drives - Appendix D in the Instruction Manual.

This sets the amount of push-start to every slew, to take up backlash.

Easiest done during the day with a reticle eyepiece.

Switch to Terrestrial to stop RA tracking.

Hi Michael thanks for this, but, as I said at the start of the post, I found this while I was retraining the drives and it was still there after I finished doing the retraining. Do you think there is value in doing it again?
