Warming up with the Moon

Clear sky - hoping to bag some Ophiuchus doubles later.  Meanwhile, I got the Moon at 20.10, 20deg, east of south, waxing gibbous.  I aligned the GoTo on it, with the ED80 in the mount.  The Moon looked quite stable round the limb, and generally lovely in a 5-plus degree field - sharp, against a clear blue background, with the 36mm Aspheric (x13).  The WA EPs gave the Ring of Fire - not a problem, but it's nice to enjoy the spectacle without that distraction.

By 21.05, using x55, the terraces and peaks of Copernicus on the terminator were good, and I followed the curve of the Apennine and Alpes Mountains, past the clear "gash" of the Alpine Valley, to Plato.

I hope to see more detail as darkness approaches, then on to those doubles.  Hope others are out enjoying themselves as well!

Doug.
