Gosky light pollution filters ?

Recommended Posts

Only general purpose filter that I've found useful for heavy LP and visual is UHC filter. It will work on emission type nebulae and hurt the rest - meaning galaxies and clusters.

There is really not much you can do except standard things:

1. and most important - try to get away from LP

2. Shield your self from surrounding light and get dark adapted

3. Look at targets further than strongest LP direction and try to observe them as high in the sky as you can - zenith is usually the best position if your target passes near it

4. Wait for nights of excellent transparency to try to view target that you have not been able so far

5. Try later in the night - LP levels change as people stop their usual evening activities and go to sleep - most turn off their home lights, traffic also gets less intense (car lights) so LP will be somewhat smaller.

I would only add that if there is a place at your observing site where you and your dob can be in the shadows this will help, if none is available a black shall or fabric hood can be placed over ones head and the eyepiece. Some even create a darker area with building materials or items that may be close at hand, an eyepatch can also be used and lifted when observing.

Best of Luck and Clear Skies of course...
