Mounting a guidescope on ED80 rings

Recommended Posts

I did mine with a second camera bolt on the ed80 ring and another dovetail bar mounted upside down on top with the small guidescope dovetail bolted to it. For added security from movement and slippage I sandwiched a thin plastic spacer between the two

works a treat. ?

Which size camera bolt is it and where should I get one from?

Any suggestions re where to source the spacer would be great.

Camera tripod screws are mostly 1/4-20 UNC  - if you just need a couple just PM me your address and I will pop you a couple of nice stainless steel ones in the post - you will probably need to shorten them but 316 stainless is easily cut with a sharp hacksaw.

I wouldn't bother with a spacer - I try to remove anything that could be a source of flexure. Just bolt the top dovetail straight onto the top of the rings.
