Minimalist solar imaging!!

Recommended Posts

Had about ten minutes before the sun went down after getting home from work, and I have yet to see the current sunspot, so the trusty 50mm spotter was pressed into service. I dug out a Baader solar film adaptor in suitable size (having made a few a while back) and found a gap in between the houses and trees. Couldn't quite get a clear view, but managed to see the spot very nicely, including the separation in the umbra. Not bad for a 50mm scope at x30.

Here is a quick smartphone image, not as good as the visual view but you get the idea. Colour was white visually, but it came out orange with the fast shutter speed needed to control the exposure.

And we have the first contestant for the solar imaging contest! Very nice!

I think I might just enter it! ???

Might be the only shot I get!
