William Optics 2 Inch Diagonal

Hi

Ive been on the look out for a secondhand 2 inch diagonal to use with my William Optics zenithstar scope.

I have been offered one for £80 in very nice condition including 1.25 adaptor.

The marking on the diagonal says Dielectric but some other William Optic 2 inch models i am finding on google say Dura-Bright.

Is there a difference ?

If so which of the 2 is better quality build wise and price wise?

Any help would be great before i decide to buy

Paul

Paul, there is a short thread on this very subject below ?

https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/434632-william-optics-2-dielectric-vs-dura-bright/

From other descriptions it appears a tad confusing, the way I read the various descriptions it seems the dura-bright is also dielectric. Maybe there is an earlier version that was simply dielectric and now dura-bright coatings have been added to improve it !!

Hi Mate

Thanks for the advise. Does £80 sound a fair price for one in good almost new condition?

You may remember im also in northampton

Hoping the skies clear tonight.

Are you going to the PAS?

We could meet up if you are

The WO diagonals and their clones do use rather thick rings to hold the eyepiece barrel onto the body of the diagonal. With the 1.25" size this ring does reduce the aperture noticably so eyepieces with the widest field stops for that barrel size are vignetted. It's possible that the same goes for the 2" units as well. Otherwise they are very nice diagonals.

I am not sure what they cost new, but 60-70% of new is common. I haven’t forgot you live in Northampton ? I have my scope set up in the garden but it’s still thick cloud outside, fingers crossed the forecast is accurate ?

I am going to the PAS and we can meet up, we can arrange it nearer the time ?
