Skyscout has a huge database now.

My son's been on about the "Skyscout" for a while now and I might get it for him for xmas.

But have just seen that the new firmware 1.3 has been released and it now has:

Added 36,000+ stars

Added Caldwell Deepsky catalog

Added Herschel400 Deepsky catalog

Added NGC Deepsky catalog

Added search by NGC menu

Makes it very impressive now. Thinking about putting it onto my OTA as a DSC set up.

What do you think?

I think i read on CN that the accuracy for Skyscout is only 3 degrees. Even with a 40mm 70deg eyepiece on the 16" the TFOV would still only be 1.6deg. Which would mean quite a bit of moving around with the scope trying to find the object.

I only say as i considered it for the 12.5.

If thats the case thats rubbish.

In that case how does it distinguish between galaxies that or only half a degree apart for example.

based on the price this thing comes in at, you'd hope it would be awesome.

I am afraid that I dont think it is...in fact it is severely overpriced regardless. It doesnt do much more than my free planetarium software. So I'm afraid i wont be investing, its tat...I'm out
