Recommended Posts

well, ive had a slow day and been internet window shopping. ordered a skymax 90 and now looking at cameras. eyed up the asi120mc and the 224mc. can anyone tell me how these differ and if their roles are different. also would either of these be any advantage over my canon 760d?

I have had an ASI120MC and now have the ASI224MC, and the latter is definitely better in terms of noise, resolution etc.  I really love this little camera, and on Jupiter I got results like these:

with my Celestron C8. it also got me some psychedelic moon shots:

This is with very, very strong saturation enhancement

Ok, looking for someone to chime in. As always happens, I started by looking at the asi120mc, then I noticed the 224 isn't much more expensive. Well now it's time to ask anyone here if the 290 is worth considering. Bearing in mind I started at the 120 . For a first dedicated camera, how much better are the 2 more expensive cameras and are they filling the same role or are they different?

Pretty sure I'm gonna drop the cash on an asi290 to use with my skymax 90 and SW ed72 when they are back in stock. Anyone got any reason this is a bad idea and other option before I buy it, also am I right in thinking that my DSLR is still useful for getting a wider view with either of those two scopes?
