21P/Giacobini-Zinner

Recommended Posts

This year is most convenient for observations of comet 21/P Giacobini-Zinner since 1959. Comet will reach the perihelium and the closest distance to Earth in the same time on September, 10th. Now it is in Cygnus, and it will move then to Cassiopeia, Cepheus, Camelopardalis, Bootes and Gemini - very nice path for northern hemisphere observers.

I made image below with 0.25m telescope and QHY163M camera. It is 10x60s stack with L filter. I estimated comet brightness to 16.1mag. I think the tails becomes visible :)

100 minutes of comet's life imaged yesterday, when comet travelled in Cassiopeia. Each frame is 1 minute exposure made with Meade ACF 10" telescope and QHY163M camera.
