Hyperion Zoom won't budge.

The Hyperion zooms are, sadly, renowned for this  although I thought that the issue was restricted to earlier versions. This subject has come up on SGL and elsewhere before.

Great links. Thanks, Steve. Looks like this elderly (ish) zoom needs to go in the bin or back to Baader. Rather a shame. I'll let the owner know, however, that it was a common problem. It will be worth asking Baader for a comment, anyway.

Much appreciated,

Olly

I've owned 3 Baader zooms and never had that problem, although I have heard of it, often in cold weather.

Although I liked the zooms and felt they were good value, I always had a nagging feeling that they weren't quite as robust as I would like. Since then I've owned a Leica Vario zoom which was optically better but only slightly better built IMO, and I now have the Pentax SMC 8-24 zoom, which is optically as good as the Leica (though not as wide a field at the longest FL setting, and is the best built zoom eyepiece have personally ever seen or used). It is a large, heavy and beautifully built piece of kit.

The Pentax is the one to the left of the photo as you look at it☺.
