moon hit by meteors

Any significant impact on the Earth facing side of the Moon would be spotted by very many observers and a fresh crater of any size would be big news indeed.

If I remember correctly there has only been one report of a possible impact being visually observed, quite a long time ago. Monks seem to spring to mind.

Patrick Moore wrote at length about so called Lunar Transient Phenomena, apparent outgassing/mist/flashes seen in crater basins. They seem to be out of fashion these days thought!

As the Moon is only around 250,000 miles from us, any Asteroid or meteor activity around Earth or coming towards earth is usually spotted well in advance by numerous professional Observatory's/agencies   . You also have numerous amateurs looking out for such activity. So I should imagine anything of significance size would of been spotted in the area before hand , or around impact time.
