Six Perseids in 150 minutes! - Aug 11th 2017

Recommended Posts

Well, it's been a slow start to the Perseids weekend. As the title says, I had my ASI120MM camera and all sky lens shooting 10 and later 15 second exposures of the sky last night from around midnight to 02:30hrs. I caught three airliners in fairly quick succession; not surprising as I'm on an air route to Newcastle airport, but the meteors were few and far between. A satellite was also caught, and while I was pleased to catch six meteors, natures rate of fire was poor. I think I saw more on Stellarium over the same period, even though the rate isn't set very high on that!! Perhaps I'll do better tonight?

Here's the four better ones.

By the end of the session, M45 and Taurus were rising over the fence, a sure sign that winter is on the way.

I haven't seen 6 Perseids in the last 6 years. And tonight looks like it could be 100% cloud from all sides just like last night.

Just a thought: Are there really meteor showers or is it just all made up ?
