I was there in July, as my youngest works in Ft. McMurray. I was also in Edmonton. It didn't seem to get really dark while we were there. You will see the same stars your British friends see every night, at the same time of night in your time zone as the Brits see them in theirs. There will be some differences in seeing such evanescent phenomena as occultations, eclipses, Jupiter transits, etc. because they don't wait around, but if Jupiter is due south at midnight in London, it will be due south in Red Deer at midnight.
