IC5146 Cocoon Nebula

Following my non-descript effort at NGC7000 I turned my scope to the Cocoon Nebula nearby. Now the 1200mm focal length actually helps as the Cocoon is only 12 arc minutes across.

IC5146 Cocoon Nebula, Cygnus- 12x 300s + 5x 600s, 12" F4 Newtonian scope, Baader MPCC III, Canon 40D (full spectrum mod), from dark sky site in Mid Wales.

And for comparison the shot earlier in the session of the central part of NGC7000 at the same scale!

Hello Laser_Jock,  the 12"F4 is a bit of a beast. What mount do you use ?      Certainly a lot of stars visible from Mid-Wales !!......   I used to live in Llanidloes a few hundred Moons ago.

Sean - the scope sits on an EQ6 but needs seven counterweights. Probably pushing the limits of that type of mount!

I agree about Mid Wales being full of stars- probably darker than some of the 'Dark Sky Parks' that there are around.
