How to create an inset box in an image

Recommended Posts

Sometimes in an image there's an area of interest that is just begging to be shown off while keeping in context with the original image. I've just created a tutorial on my website which is easy to follow in order to make the kind of magnified insets shown below.

I hope that someone finds it useful and informative.

I welcome any thoughts on the tutorial and whether there's anything missing or needed to be made easier to understand :)

@Yamez - That's great to know! Thanks! Of course once you get the hang of it you can do other stuff - So you can transform the magnified inset by a little (perhaps 110%) and then it 'looks' to be more magnified. But then you are in danger of losing detail.

I appreciate the feedback :)

That's great Steve - As you say, you can do all manner of things with the 'magnified box' including some curves, or increase the scale in the transform mode to make it more enlarged in comparison to the main background :)

You clearly found it easy to follow :)
