It says in  my instructions  az  mount , now get this, it states here this telescope moves with the earth's rotation. And there are slow motion controls ... And you can track planets moon, stars .

 

 

Please explain  my ears are open.

Is it the AZ 3? The show motion controls let you move the mount by hand in both directions independently so you can keep your object in the field of view for a while before you need to reset the slow motion cables.

Slow motion cakes can do exactly what happy-Kat said, but they are a manual control only, so the user has to perform this action. If you don't then the stars or planets your observing will move out of view in the EP.

William if you take your telescope outside and look at the Moon through the eyepiece you will quickly appreciate the need for the telescope to be able to move.  The Moon, or any other target, will move across the eyepiece; if the telescope does not move with the target, the target will soon leave your view.  The so called slo mo controls when turned allow you to move the telescope in a controlled manner such that the target remains centred in the eyepiece for you to view. Kind of neat when you think about it.

There is a live app  that  tracks it and show. Live videos of it. Very cool app

William, any star will do, you will get the same appreciation of how to use the slo mo controls and why they are needed.  Give it a go and let's know how you get on.

OK I  use my Carson universal smartphone adoptor

Stars in real time move in an equatorial motion, ths is like a gentle arc of movement. A AltAz mount will move in little left right up down movements whether it is a manual mount or motorised.

I use it for my telescope and microscope.

Put that on the eyepiece with your mobile phone and you will see just how quickly targets move out of the eyepiece.

Stellarium is a really useful app William, if you haven't already downloaded it I would recommend it to you.  You are better off with the download for a pc or mac - the mobile phone version is fine but offers limited functionality.  PC or mac version is free.
