What is this bit for ?.?

Hi all,

i have manged to bag myself a secondhand practically unused, pier and wedge adapter plate, the ones shown in image below, it is 8 years old, and never been outside and only stored in a dry garage, so in as new condition, even comes with the anchor chemical bot fixing kit...all for £250...and is £550 new, so am very happy....

anyway I have the standard Meade wedge which fits to the top plate, but what is the bit for that I have marked in the image ?? Is it something to do with the AZ movement of the wedge ?, I have not collected the kit yet so can't test it out for another few days.

I think I may have answered my own question, just found this image of the megawedge, is it for this AZ index control, I have marked up on the image below ?.
