What a bagain. I have just bought a Canon EOS 450D on Ebay for £41.00. All that is wrong with it is the auto focus does not work but manual does. Aparantly eveything else work perfectly ( I hope!! ). If I am correct and please correct if not but I don't need the camera to focus or I can use manual focus for prime focus photography. I am really looking forward to getting started on the steep and frustrating learning curve of AP.

Fingers crossed it's OK, the 450D is a good astro-cam. Yes, you'll be using manual focus for AP anyway. You may even find any auto-focus problem is with the lens and not the camera body.

Good buy  Always a good idea to lookout for cheap DLSR's with little problems that don't effect AP. It's usually the lens that has the focus motor in, so it might even be 100% fine as said above.

Rip out the IR filter from the front of the CCD and you'll have yourself a cheap astro only camera.

I did the DIY IR conversion with a similarly priced Canon 40D- great for Ha Nebulosity objects!
