Southern Hemisphere Galaxies

Recommended Posts

I am heading to Cape Town in February with a pair of 11 X 70 binoculars.

Apart from M83, LMC and SMC, can anyone advise me on suitable galaxies to be targeting?

 Many thanks.

ooh, and the Jewel Box cluster ngc4755 is pretty special, and although sco/sag area is visable from the northern hemisphere, its much better placed down south, although its quite easy to get lost in there....its full of gems

Thanks for the suggestions.

I did indeed observe some of the DSOs you suggest last time I was there.

For the benefit of the person I am visiting, I was hoping to show him some galaxies as he is always amazed by truly distant objects.

I missed M83 last time I was there as TLAO fails to mention it. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for other galaxies accessible with 70mm binoculars.

Thanks.
