Post your Images with an AVX mount!

Hi Herzy,

For less of stress, I think you should go with HEQ5 ~ Orion Sirius Mount. EQMOD is one of the benefit of this mount over AVX.
Well, I'm not saying you can't make images you proud of with AVX.

I belief, the maximum scope you can use with AVX is something like AT6RC (+ an autoguider of course).

I can't afford a Orion Sirius mount, but I can afford an HEQ5. Is an HEQ5 mount better? The HEQ5 is just 25$ more then the AVX. :/

I love my avx and am sky limited rather than mount. My only comparison is an eq3 which preceded it, and the difference is enormous. It seems excellent but it is still very light compared to the eq6. I can therefore heave my entire setup in and out of the house without too much trouble which reduces setup time.

I use it with a 150p and St80 for guiding. Even with an ef200 ontop my guiding is usually <1.3 rms (<1 on good nights). I think these figures are roughly in line with the heq5 and eq6 under normal use.

More images can be seen on my Flickr page. With darker sky I have no doubt the results would improve dramatically...

Hi Herzy,

Sorry to keep you waiting so long.
HEQ5 is equivalent of Orion Sirius. Try to find a used one. Like I said, you will able to use EQMOD with this mount.
The main issue with the AVX mount is lack of a bearing on the declination axis. But, it's okay if this will be your final decision. With no more than 600mm refractor, I think you will be just fine.

I don't think getting something this expensive used is a good risk so I'll either save up or get the AVX.

Im thinking of getting the 6-inch Newtonian AVX mount scope for only 100$ extra... Will that be too heavy after I have my camera and auto guider equipment in?

I strongly recommended start with a short refractor or lens. Something like TS65 or Zenithstar 71.
I use AT65EDQ (equivalent TS65). With a precise polar alignment, I can get reasonable round stars on +/- 3min exposure unguided. Backyard EOS/NIKON helped me a lot to do this.
Precise polar alignment will be your first task in this hobby.
After you can get round stars with short refractor on minimum 5min (plus guider), then you are ready for longer focal length.
