Adapter question

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I've finally managed to get myself a mono atik 383l (thanks to astrobuysell) and now realise I need an adapter for it to fit my skywatcher coma corrector. The question is which one do I need?

In time I will be getting a filter wheel, lrgb and narrowband filters etc and eventually a new scope. I'm hoping the replacement star 71 will be within my price range. But for now I'm using a skywatcher 200p with a skywatcher coma corrector that I cannot connect my new toy to.

Its not just a adapter you need but 55mm spacing from the Coma Corrector to the CCD Sensor, i use a Baader Vari-Lock, one end screwed into the CCD the other the Coma Corrector, notning else requiered the Vari-Lock has the distance marked and a simple locking ring to keep it tight...

Like this, when it come to adding a Filter Wheel i use the Atik EFW 2 so the supplied software works with the CCD and the Filter Wheel, but it will need the other small Vari-Lock to get the distance right..the second photo is with the Filter Wheel added..

Thanks tinker.

Would I be right in thinking that this is the one I need?

The 838 appears to have 17.5mm back focus leaves 29.5mm to source a spacer for the smaller Vari-Lock does 20mm to 29mm this as close as it gets a 5mm T-2 Spacer would handy, the adpater you have list isn't the right one this is what you want..

After a bit of searching I found this adapter. Would this not be better suited as it has a longer extension tune for more back focus so no need for the additional 5mm spacer.

Either will be work if the maths are right with the spacing this will be at its minimum so if it goes a little bit shorter that will be fine, the other one with the 5mm extension would allow around 5mm movement either side of 55mm so its up to you. our site sponsors do the same adapter at the same price but its your choice who to buy from...
