First attempt at variable star estimate

I have been trying to identify Z UMa and to make an estimate.   At 2000 hrs tonight I think I have managed to do this and my estimate was 8.4, if it was the correct star.   Could anyone advise me if this estimate is around the expected value?

I haven't done any estimates lately but here's a chart and sequence you might find useful. The sequence used is the same as the BAA VSS chart.

You might like to try RY UMa too.

Many thanks Michael, tthe chart I used had the same sequence and if I have correctly identified Z UMa and reference star E I thought they were identical.  If skies are clear tonight I will use your chart and have another go.

A good tip if you think the star was equal to E would be to not use E next time but try D and H.

As has been pointed out it is necessary to compare your target to a few other stars an average the estimates. This gives a much more accurate result.
