Frank the Troll
It's labeled as a TQ5 Is this a EQ5 under a differebt badge? It has dual drives fitted Edited January 30, 2016 by Frank the Troll
RikM
No. It's not an EQ5. It looks like one of the lightweight budget heads sold with Phenix telescopes. I had one for while. They are basic but functional as long as you don't overload it. A genuine EQ5 is a much heavier, much sturdier piece of equipment.
Frank the Troll
Its not lightweight, far heavier than my old 120 frac, eq3.2 mount and tripod combined
RikM
'Lightweight' is relative. Yes, it's heavier than an EQ3-2 but still much lighter than an EQ5. I had both. It's still a perfectly good mount though
Frank the Troll
Im putting the 120 frack on it, should cope with that easily, just need the right tripod now as wont fit on the eq3 It's never been used as came as a spare in a mixup for someone. But £35 for a mount with dual drives and polar scope, cant be bad
Cornelius Varley
In theory the EQ3-2 tripod should fit the new mount because this is a standard size used by the EQ3, 5 and HEQ5 mounts. If it doesn't fit then a tripod from an EQ5 or HEQ5 might not also fit.

Took a look on google, your right, its a Phenix but its describe as a EQ5 Picture is the same mount shown on this page: http://neilenglish.net/the-phenix-refractors-rising-from-the-ashes/
Cornelius Varley
At the best I think the mount could be described as a Chinese clone of the Vixen SP/GP mount.

It's a very good budget mount.

The Phenix "TQ5/EQ5" is another clone of the Vixen mount.
Marpic
Hi Frank, I recently inherited a TQ5 telescope mount with attached motors for dual axis control and tracking. Alas it arrived without the motor handset. The Celestron G4 motor handset I tried on it fits perfectly, but only gets the motors to pulse back and forth in tiny movements/shudders! Did you ever find any useful details or manual for the mount? Did you add motor drives and if so which type and what hand set? I have found nothing on my web searches relating to this mount other than your SGL posting and mine. Regards
