First attempt at M33

First attempt at M33. Bit dissapointed as took 36, 2 minute lights however DSS decided ed it only liked 3 of them. Anyway at least you can just about make it out processed in gimp

What was the scope / camera?

Thanks for the encouragement. Had second thoughts about posting the picture after seeing other amazing images of m33.

 My  scope is a 8" SCT with a 6.3 focal reducer on a avx mount.  I use a canon 450d camera with a  Astronomik cls filter. At moment can only manage 2 minute exposures as still trying to figure out the syn guider

Once you get the guiding sorted and can persuade DSS to take some more subs, you will get some great images.

Yeh i know i need to get it sorted. But with so few decent nights i just want to get imaging. Would it work better with loads of 1 minute light frames? rather then risking  lots of 2 - 4 minute frames?

I don't see why not. You may miss out on some of the very faint bits, but that is better than not having workable subs.

Here is one I did a while back when I was starting out...... still haven't had another go at it....or got much better!

I can't remember how many subs, but they wouldn't have been that long as I wasn't guiding.

Wow still an amazing picture. Would it work on DSS if i did a combination of 1 and 2 minute lights, so long as i did the equivalent darks?

I am no expert, but I think it would be worth a try...the more lights the better.....throw in some darks.... see what happens.
