Hollowed out stars ?

Could someone explain what hollowed out stars are please and how you recognise one ?....Many thanks ....Geoff

i would think there out of focus stars, but i have never heard it said like that....

Sometimes cosmetic adjustment in DSS will attack the stars and leave them with dark holes.

I don't get it myself with DSS on the default settings.

Yes, I think thats what it may be, it is often used when people on here give critique to others work. I have looked but could not see what was meant with this particular saying

Yes when the centre of the star is dimmer than the outer part of it then it is either out of focus or has been damaged by processing. As mentioned above DSS can do this when using hot pixel rejection but should not do it on the default settings.

The problem is with a final image it is hard to tell the cause, it should be more obvious when looking at the unprocessed light frames though.
