Suitable DSO objects

Hi i have the following set up a 8"sct on a avx mount. Also with focal reducer. My camera is a 450d dslr un modified. Iwould consider my polar alignment now as good. 

Due to lack of clear nights here i didnt want to waste valuble time on "unsuitable" DSO objects that my set up would stRuggle with. I have tried the wizard nebula and galaxy NGC6946

Any suggestions?

It sounds as if you are not guiding so you will be limited to the brighter objects like the Orion Neb, Globular Clusters and Open Clusters. Start at 60 secs exposure and work up until you get star trails.

Thanks Peter I can manage to get upto 3 min exposures without trailing. How many 1-3 min  exposure do these objects require before DSS would you suggest?

Short answer is as many as you can but I would aim for at least 20 for 60 secs exposure. You should also take darks and flats but try them without first as that is a whole new set of issues. Take them in RAW format of course.

Yes i try and darks and flats. Do you use filters for nebula?

while your at orion you may like to try the flame and horsehead nebs aswell. clear skys  charl

Yes defiantly give it a try. Looked on accuweather  for next 2 weeks and not looking good weather wise down here

Which clip filter is this one? is the light pollution one

Astronomik CLC clip filter for LP. Not sure of its usefulness now we have LED street lights.
