Any way to identify this object?

Recommended Posts

It doesn't correspond to any satellites on Stellarium or Heavens Above. The shot on the left is from 2218 UT (Oct 7) at 60 sec exposure, and on the right from 2220 at 75 sec, so it's a slow mover! The 3.8 mag star at lower left is Albali, eps Aqr. Thanks.

Well I'll be... it seems as though there's a flare season for geosynchronous satellites when they can become much brighter than normal. According to Calsky it happens around the time of the equinox including last night!  So not a UFO

According to satellite watchers who can be as devoted to seeing these as we tend to be more natural, stellar objects - about 60% of satellites up there are unidentified by such programs as NASA and NATO Air Force TLE's (telemetry). Not because they're flying-saucers, rather because they're classified satellites we're not supposed to know about. :lipsrsealed:

Happy Trails,

Dave
