Recommended Posts

This event, which is the most favourable stellar occultation by an asteroid visible from the UK in 2015,  will take place between 04:27:00 - 04:30:00 UT (5.27 am - 5.30 am) on Wednesday, September 30. For further details of what to expect and how to observe it, visit the BAA page about the event: https://britastro.org/node/6671

Sorry not to get back sooner. Conditions were good and a superb set of results were obtained across the UK. I myself achieved a positive observation. Here is a graphic produced from the results of the observations which shows the shape of the asteroid based on our locations and the disappearance and reappearance times that were submitted. My Result is chord number 14.

I believe it is one of, if not the best UK result for an asteroidal occultation. I would like to mention this was possible with the good work of Tim Haymes, the occultation coordinator for the BAA and the euraster.net web page for maintaining the results of the European asteroidal occultation observations.

What a great area for amateurs to contribute to; thank you for posting and congrats on your observation!

Paul

Very true, the pursuit of chasing occultations can be quite satisfying knowing that the results can be submitted and used for further study. Even a negative result can still be a valuable contribution.
