Bubble neb & area

jetstream

Recommended Posts

It's been awhile since I last checked this area and the revisit went very well. My eyes have adapted to the brighter nebula that I view a lot so some of the Bubble area can get difficult. The Scorpion showed nicely and the Bubble was relatively bright in one EP/OIII combo.

It is the Lobster Claw neb Sh2-157 that can be a challenge, parts of it anyway. The one section of the claw is fairly easy but the rest is very difficult and my eyes are not "tuned in" to these faint nebs yet, which makes a difference. There are dark rifts and lanes in the area too, a great hunting ground from dark skies and a dob- there is a lot to see in this area.

The night was closed after viewing some galaxies in the Great Square,  NGC 7331, NGC 7479 and NGC 7448 among others.

That looks to be a rich area on the map, and sounds like you've had a good deal of success. Did an UHC or O-III help? I've been planning to make it in that direction and the Lobster Claw looks tantalizing! If I can spot it and the Bubble I'd be quite happy :)

Hi Kevin, the Astronomik OIII filter is VG for this area, besting the Lumicon. I use my 10" dob on this place as it matches my filters well (f4.8) with my low power EP's. Individual EP's also make a difference. From dark skies I'll bet money you will see a small Bubble neb with your 31T5/OIII... and maybe more
