Milky Way from France

Recommended Posts

From 'Les Granges' (Olly's place) in Étoile-Saint-Cyrice to be more exact.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II (Baader mod) @ ISO 1600

Samyang 14 mm f/2.8

Tracking: Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer (unguided)

The Milky Way is a stack of 24 images 2 minutes each. The hills and the first several degrees of sky above them are from the first image of that sequence.

Now, how does the Milky Way looks to the naked eye from this location? I have tried to make an approximation of the visual experience.

Very nice.  Having seen that I might have been tempted to go for some even longer exposures :)

I suspect you might have understated the Milky Way's naked eye appearance.  On a good night I'd say it's better than that here, and I'm sure Les Granges is better than here.  That or the image upload has done you no favours.
