Before and After

Been going through my archive and playing with some new techniques to see if they make a worthwhile difference...

This is an example of using an overlayed, inverted and blurred duplicate image to help manage the 'extremes' of contrast and bring out more detail in the shadows. I think it works quite well in this image?

Thanks all ;)

I've tried this technique on a number of images now. Some it works quite dramatically on, others are only negligible improvements.

For anyone who's interested in tyrying it, here's the basic steps in PS CS2..

Open your image image1 (doesn't matter what format) in PS

Duplicate image1 to create image2

Apply adjustment/invert image to image2

Apply Gaussian blur of between 8-10 to image2

Choose image1 and Apply Image...

Select image2 as the image to apply, choosing Overlay as the method and 75%

Then have a little play with the levels on image1 to fine tune it.

*might not have got all the PS menu paths right in this, but I'm trying to do it from memory :-)
