Converting serial/USB to RJ45/USB (EQDIRECT)

Hi all,

I already own a serial to USB connector for controlling my mount and I was wondering if I could just strip the USB part and connect it to a CAT5 cable ? This would give me an EQdirect cable for free ;)

The other solution was to get a TTL-232R-5V PCB but I would think that I already have that in the connector I own ?

Anyone from the savvy DIY crowd have done this before ?

Unfortunatly it's the other way around.

I own this

[ Laptop > USB > Serial > RS232 > Handset > handset port on mount ]

I want to convert the Serial/RS232 part to a single CAT5 cable so I can plug in the RJ45 connector on the mount as an EQDirect cable would do.

Like this:

[ Laptop > USB > RJ45 > Handset port on mount ]

Some people made their own EQDirect cable using a TTL-232R-5V PCB but I am trying to figure out if the USB>Serial>RS232 I already own can be stripped and used to do the same.

I'll post some pictures, maybe this will make thing clearer
