Adding Goto to a Standard Dobsonian.

Can you add Goto tracking to a normal Dobsonian at a later date or do you need to buy them already setup like that?

I think it would be easier to buy a goto dobsonian rather than try to add it at a later stage. Skywatcher used to sell a range of flex-tube dobsonians with a motorised base that could be converted to goto by replacing the handset. These seem to have been discontinued so that option has been removed.

There used to be a bolt on kit from Skywatcher but they ceased producing it some years back. Actually it was available for a fairly short time only.

Not aware of anyone doing an alternative and if there is one it is likely to be more cost then a new scope.

Two thoughts both DIY.

Add setting circles for the go to bit.

Build an equatorial platform for the tracking bit.

There is a company in Cornwall area that does tracking platforms for Dobs they advertise on Astro buy sell not Goto but they track .
