UK's largest meteorite strike

That's interesting Becky - thanks for posting it.

I used to have a very small chunk of the largest UK meteorite in living memory - the one that fell on Christmas Eve 1965 in Barwell, Leicestershire. That one was about 44 kgs in total weight - this Scottish one was obviously much, much bigger

Ah thats why we all had sore heads the next day. We were all thinking that we'd had a wee dram or two too many.

And before you say that "Surely the utter devastation would give it away", I'd like to point out that this is Ullapool we're talking about.

I haven't been to Ullapool for over fifteen years. It was a gorgeous wee place, but I've heard that it hasn't escaped the sort of social problems which blight everywhere else.

Getting back on target I wonder if the strike explains the weird landscape around Suilven and Stac Polly.

Peace and Clear Skies.

Very much a tongue in cheek post by me there. I've been to Ullapool twice in the dead of winter in the middle of the night and both times it was a howling gale and rain so hard even the fish were complaining. I bet in a nice day it is beautiful.

Becky, they are the result of the last age, there is a site, on the road going north towards Altnahara that explains the geology of the area.

It is beautiful part of the country, where you can travel miles without seeing a house.

Ullapool brings a smile to my face . On one of the many family holidays to the Highlands when I was young, we visited Corrieshalloch Gorge which has a suspension bridge over the gorge and me and my brother managed to scare the living daylights out of my mum by rocking the said bridge. Lunch in Ullapool was a quite tense affair.... Kids eh?

Did you mean last ice age? I just love Scotland, friends often ask me why I don't have a passport. I tell them it's because I haven't seen every part of Scotland yet.

Peace and Clear Skies.
