I wouldn't use a switched-mode supply... they generate electrical noise.

'Linear' are cleaner....the have a big transformer inside and are heavier.

I think most of the Maplin bench supplies are linear....the 30 Amp one certainly is.

I got the Maplins Xm21 which I'm pretty sure is linear.  FLO actually use it too.

I believe that is right.

Generally the linears cost more per amp and are a bit bulkier.

Yeah it's fairly hefty and costs £45 for 5amp continuous.  £99 for a 30 amp variable voltage version

I went mad and went for the 30 Amp version.....and am well pleased with it.

The Maplin supplies seem to be good quality items.
