Auto slew in C artes du Ciel - help needed please

I can move my scope via the N, E,S, W keys on CdC no problem.

I now want to start auto slewing but I'm having difficulties

I point to an item on the screen and then click the sync button, I then click yes to confirm that my AZ mount is pointing at that item - such as M42.

An error message then appears that says "Error: Slew is not possible if the scope is not aligned" the message comes with the option to click OK and the message then disappears.

Please can someone explain how I align my scope properly?

I do not use CDC on my one sync is to put a point in eqmod to were it is only.

How do I tell CduC where my scope is currently pointing so that it knows which way to slew?

-If you're using EQmod - clear any stored alignment points

-Go to CDC and connect your scope

-Click/select your target

-Click slew, then centre the object in the eyepiece

-Click sync

-Repeat with another couple of targets.

As post (4)  Thanks wuthton,   every time you are on the target sync put a point in eqmod making a star map up to 30 points.
