An easy-to-see white dwarf

For small 'scope users, it's the season to observer white dwarf 40 Eridani, next door to Orion. From Rigel, we follow the stream of the sacred river until we come to Omicron 1 and 2.

Now centre orange K-type star Omicron 2 in the field and, assuming clear conditions, we should just about see the white dwarf  in a 60mm refractor, especially with averted vision.

This multiple stellar system consists of the primary mag 4 orange star, the mag 9.5 white dwarf and a mag 11 red dwarf. The latter take 250 years and 8000 years respectively to orbit the primary.
