Enhanced Dual-Axis DC Motor Drives for EQ-5 - How to power?

Hi, Will these work with rechargable batteries? My other thought was using a power bank with a USB 5v 2mp output and a USB to barrel jack wire. What do you think?

Check what voltage the rechargeable D cells produce.

The AA and AAA are 1.2V not the half expected 1.5v.

If the D cells follow the same (I suspect they do) then the rechargeables are no use.

From what I've been reading normal batteries drop in voltage very quickly to below 1.2v anyway, so in theory rechargeables should work as their voltage doesn't drop very much. I have read on here of someone using energiser rechargeables with the older version of the dual axis motors but I wanted to double check before dropping the money for some decent rechargeables. What do you think of the power bank idea?

I don't use dry cells with any of my astro kit other than my laser pointer, but the impression I have from people who have tried rechargeables is that they don't behave very well in the cold.

When I was using the standard EQ3-2 aftermarket motor kit (which I think is fairly similar) I used a regulated 6V PSU instead of the battery pack.  5V might be a bit marginal.

I'm going to want to take it to dark sites occasionally, so I would prefer a rechargeable option that works. Is it not dangerous to use a mains power supply outside with dew etc?

I keep the plugs and suchlike covered up.  I've not had a problem.

Ok, thanks, what amp rating is your supply?

I think mine has a 1A rating, but you may need a bit more for yours given the additional functionality with the guiding etc.
