Help choosing telescope for wife please

I would probably hold off spending too much for the moment and see how you get on with the included eyepieces. They are not the best but will get you started.

Be careful with the Hyperion zoom. I have not had one but seem to remember it doesn't perform that well in faster scopes ( ie ones with lower focal ratios, yours is f5).

I probably do agree that if anything, a better higher power eyepiece would be worth it at some point, an 8mm or 6mm perhaps.

Too late i'm afraid I ordered the Hyperion Zoom along with the Hyperion Zoom Barlow from FLO earlier :)  I spoke to Steve and he did some calculations as he didn't think the barlow combined with the eyepiece would be suitable but, when he finished his calculations, it turns out they will be.

Anything that makes it easier for my wife to use it will help the learning curve :)

I'm sure you will have fun with it :-).

With the barlow you will get up to around x180 which may be a little high but it's a good option to have for planets. Obviously with the zoom you can back off this a little until the view sharpens up so should be good.
