Could anyone help with another question or two about the Atik 314l+ ?

Hi,

One thing I forgot to ask on my original post and something I just cannot seem to find the answer to either is.....

Do I still need to use my Flattener with the 314L+ and Equinox 80?

and if it is needed how do I connect the camera and 1.25'' filters/wheel to the flattener as this fits into the 2'' section of the focuser?

Also I am of the understanding it requires 55mm spacing from the chip to focuser is this right?

I have looked everywhere online and I am just confusing myself with C, M48, T2 threads etc. and I'm not even sure I need them yet.

My flattener is this one http://www.firstlightoptics.com/reducersflatteners/skywatcher-field-flattener.html

I have found this thread which suggest that maybe it isn't required so even more confused :D http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/172380-field-flattener-reducer-and-314l/

So to summarise:

1. Is the flattener required?

Yes - how do I connect it all up and get the correct spacing?

No - what should I use to get the correct spacing?

or do I need something completely different!

I hope I have made sense as I don't think I have explained it very well, sorry! Anything else I might need to know would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Vicky

you will need a 48mm to t2 adapter http://www.firstlightoptics.com/adaptors/flo-m48-to-t2-adapter.html a 10mm spacer then filter wheel then camera, the filter wheel should come with adapters to attach to camera so if my maths is right thats

48 to t2 adapter   10mm

spacer                 10mm

filter wheel           22mm

f/w to 314 adapter 2mm ish

camera                12mm

total                      56mm

you might not need the flattener try it and see first (i use one on my woz71 and atik 314l+ )

if you don't need it you don't have to worry about getting the spacing correct

hope this helps

Yes, you do need the flattener.

My setup is Equinox 80, then the Skywatcher 2inch flattener, then a Delrin spacer, then a Baader 15mm T2 extension tube, then another Delrin spacer, then T-threaded into manual filter wheel, then Baader T2/T2 inverter ring, into T-thread on the Atik 314L. I have a couple more Delrin spacers to manage the distance between camera and filter wheel.  The spacers and extension tube lengths depend on your filter wheel width of course...

The Baader variable T2 extension gives you a bit more flexibility:

Hi Vicky - what filter wheel do you have? If it already has a T-thread adaptor then you won't need anything else between the filter wheel and the camera. Mine was second hand manual filter wheel without a nose-piece or adaptor so I had to make my own solution - the T2/T2 inverter
